The National Association of Home Builders and the MetLife Mature Market Institute recently surveyed Baby Boomers and found that among their top priorities in a home is a main-level bedroom. A home that is low maintenance was also desired by this group, which controls 70 percent of the total net worth of American households and accounts for 40 percent of total consumer demand.
In addition, Baby Boomers are looking for their next home to be equally sized to their current one, with a preference for three bedrooms. Other top-rated features include washers and dryers, storage space, easy-to-open windows, high-speed internet access, energy-efficient appliances, and home security systems. As for location, the majority of respondents said they prefer a suburban home, while a rural community is preferred by 28 percent. Only 9 percent want to live in a central city.
