Now that autumn is upon us, it’s a great time to plant new bushes and add assorted shrubs. Doing some landscaping at this time of year can invigorate your home’s look and add some valuable curb appeal to help attract potential buyers.
Why plant in the fall? During the fall months, the soil is still warm and the weather tends to be wetter — two ideal conditions that can help new plants survive while they establish a solid root system. Once this system is in place, they will be ready to handle the following year’s heat and humidity.
Before planting, make sure you map out where and what you would like to do. Will the new plants need sun or will they grow in the shade? Are they hardy enough to withstand the cold? Do they need a lot of moisture or only minimal watering? Depending on your comfort level, it may be best to talk with a certified landscaper before getting started.
Once you have your new shrubs in place, cover the base of each plant with lightly packed native soil to help achieve good soil-to-root contact. Add a good amount of water and some mulch, and your plants are on their way.
Outdoor makeovers such as this can freshen up the look of your home and give you the curb appeal you need to get your home sold!
